September Give: Hands and Feet

 /

For our September Give, we are thrilled to partner with Hands and Feet to support children entering or at risk of entering foster care in South Florida. This remarkable organization is revolutionizing the way essential items are delivered to families in the child welfare system, providing crucial support during times of transition and uncertainty.

Hands and Feet was founded by Bailey, a former foster mom and adoptive mother to four beautiful children. After closing her home to fostering, Bailey realized there was a significant gap in resources for foster and kinship families. Inspired by her own experiences, Bailey and her sister Makayla took a spontaneous, life-changing action one evening. They delivered essential items to a foster family who had just taken in three children in the middle of the night, including a 17-year-old girl, her 1-year-old son, and her 14-year-old sister who had been rescued from human trafficking. This act of compassion revealed the profound impact immediate support could have on a family’s life and sparked the creation of Hands and Feet.

Starting in Palm Beach County, Hands and Feet quickly expanded its reach. Kristin West, a fellow foster parent, helped launch the Treasure Coast branch, and Diana Gelfand, a foster and adoptive mother, along with Katy Wood, established the Broward County branch in January 2022. Their growth reflects a deep commitment to improving the foster care experience for children and families in their communities.

Think of Hands and Feet as DoorDash for foster care. Their mission is to deliver everything a child needs directly to their doorstep within 48 hours, ensuring that they receive crucial support during a time of significant transition. By serving children in the South Florida region, Hands and Feet is dedicated to changing the way children interact with the child welfare system, offering a more compassionate and responsive approach.
