Featured Moms: Meet Kenzie

 /

A big part of why we love what we do is seeing your stories unfold, and recognizing the moms that make it all happen. From sweet snuggles with babe to honest and hard questions, we're letting you in behind the scenes of some of our favorite CO mamas. Meet Kenzie, mama to Payson and Arizona native.

Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Mackenzie Lunt, I am from Arizona, born and raised!! My husband, DJ and I have been married for almost 3 years, we have a 12-month-old baby girl, Payson, and a puppy named Nugget.

Favorite thing about being a mama?

My favorite part of being a mama's watching her learn how to do new things. It's amazing to see the human you made learning how to function. She has learned to clap, crawl, say more in sign language and just started walking. It feels like such a victory anytime she learns something new.

What's the hardest thing about being a mom?

The hardest thing about being a mom is how much more planning life takes! I have always been a spur of the moment type of person but that has had to change since having Payson. Just getting out the door takes an extra 30 minutes to just get her stuff together. I have to plan to be home for her naps, plan date nights, plan for literally everything!

What brings you joy?

My niece and sister just moved to Arizona, and it has been the best! My niece is two and I have lived by her for her whole life but they moved to Canada and we didn't think they would ever live by us again. They just moved back and will be here forever now! Nothing brings me more joy than seeing my daughter and my niece play together. Payson absolutely loves her! I grew up close to all my cousins so this is so exciting to me, and my other sister is pregnant with a girl!! Cousins and family make me the happiest, I'm lucky to live so close to everyone.

What does self-care look like for you? How do you make time for yourself and what does that look like?

I definitely think self-care as a mom is so important. It is something I forget about a lot and can tell I will be on edge if I haven't taken any time for myself. If I got a day to myself I would definitely get my nails done! I love getting my nails done but it is more relaxing without a baby!! I also love walking around Home Goods or Target, so basic I know, and I would take a LONGGGGG bubble bath!!

Love it! What are some of your favorite activities to do with your babe?

Payson has never been a homebody. I think she gets pretty anxious being cooped up all day so we usually don't spend a ton of time at home. We love going on walks with Nugget, there's a nature park close to us and we go feed the ducks and walk around. I also love taking her to Target with me. She sits in the cart with her cup of Puffs and it makes me so happy, it's the kind of activity I pictured the whole time I was pregnant.

We love your little girl’s name- Payson- how did you come up with it?!

Thank you!! We are from Arizona and there's a town named Payson here. It is where my husband and I went on part of our honeymoon. We were sitting in the living room with my whole family trying to think of girl names because we had NONE! My mom said Payson kind of as a joke and my husband and I looked at each other and said: “that's it.” We knew at that moment if she was a girl that'd be her name. Once we found out it was a girl that's the only thing we’d call her. It's definitely a tribute to Arizona.

Such a cute story! What mom chore would you forever outsource?

For sure folding laundry. I normally outsource folding laundry to my husband! He folds like he works at Abercrombie. We trade dishes for folding laundry, pretty fair trade if you ask me!

What’s your favorite thing about Colored Organics?

My favorite thing about Colored Organics is the quality and comfort. The clothes can outlast anything!! As soon as you hold it you can tell the difference of the material compared to other places. Not to mention the ADORABLE prints, they go with everything.

A favorite cozy item at Colored Organics?

I love our Half Moon Emerson Sleeper, she wears it to bed most nights but it's cute enough to wear out and about! This is my husband's favorite because when he has her he doesn't have to get her dressed.

What advice would you give to an expecting mother?

Try to embrace every stage of motherhood. It was really really hard for me when she was leaving the newborn stage. I dreaded her growing up but now that she's in the stage she's in I couldn't imagine it any other way. Try to remember every moment, take the picture when you don't look good, leave the dirty dishes, take all the cuddles you can while they're little. But embrace every stage they are in because it'll never be the same.

Lastly, how are you coping with the stay at home order/working full time in health care?

I’m coping pretty well, my husband and I both work in separate physical therapy clinics. We’re deemed “essential” during this time. We are so lucky to have our families around us. They’re really awesome at helping with the baby when we have to pick up extra shifts. It really takes a village and takes more now more than ever.

Absolutely! What things have you been doing to keep sane and be positive during this time?

We’re staying pretty positive here, we live in Arizona so it’s warm already. We have been in our little blow-up pool and mini splash pad every day! We love to just get outside and walk our dog. This is just a moment in time and it’ll end soon. It’ll be a memory to tell our daughter her first birthday was during a pandemic!
