Featured Mom: Meet Amanda

 /

We love seeing your stories unfold, here at Colored Organics, and recognizing the moms that make it all happen. Becoming a mom has a lot of surprising discoveries and learnings along the way. Every mom has a different journey and we love to hear from these amazing women on their perspective of motherhood, the challenges they face, and the joys they experience. We're letting you in behind the scenes of one of our favorite CO mamas we have partnered with for all of her sweet children. Meet Amanda, the face behind Little Southern Life and mama of five sweet little babes.

Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Amanda Scott and I am a mom of five. I work from home for a company called Beautycounter and I own a lifestyle and wellness blog called Little Southern Life. I spend my days raising babies, helping mama's out with questions about motherhood, and sharing what I know about healthy living and living your best life.

Most rewarding thing about being a mama?

The smiles and memories that are made daily. I can never tire from being there to see their faces light up after they have accomplished something they set their mind too and also hearing their giggles when they are playing and being silly. The little moments throughout the day make all the crazy days worth it!

Totally agree! The little moments are everything. What was the most surprising thing you discovered about being a mom?

How judgmental other moms can be when you have different parenting styles than them. I've had to grow as a strong woman and remember that my journey isn't the same as everyone else's and it's ok that it looks different. As long as I am happy with my parenting choices, that's all that should matter.

What does self-care look like for you? How do you make time for yourself and what does that look like?

Self-care is SO important for all moms. You will get burned out from giving endlessly to your children so make sure to fill your own cup because you cannot pour from an empty cup. I personally love taking a long soak in an Epsom salt bath, putting on a charcoal mask, and also regularly exercising. Yoga has helped me in so many ways postpartum. It takes my focus and makes me stop working about all of my responsibilities or else I will fall over during the middle of my practice.

What are some of your favorite activities to do with your babes?

We love going on family bike rides or walks down our neighborhood rail trail. We also frequent the beach as often as possible. I purchased a $30 splash pad from Target earlier this spring and we have used it every day outside when the weather is nice. Bubbles and chalk also make daily appearances in our lives.

Love this! What mom chore would you forever outsource?

Folding and putting away laundry. With five kids, I have 2-3 loads of laundry to wash and put away every day. It's a chore I would happily give away!

What is something that having a child has taught you?

That my life doesn't need to be perfectly scheduled to thrive. My life with kids is a lot easier when we have a loose schedule that changes with our daily needs. Being flexible and not caring if things don't go perfectly according to plan is important for my sanity.

What’s your favorite thing about Colored Organics?

I love the quality of the clothing! With 4 girls, we do hand me downs with clothing. Investing in nicer pieces like Colored Organics clothing keeps me from spending a lot each season in buying the girls outfits. With Colored Organics, the quality of the pieces is so great that I can pass them down to each of my girls.

Aw, we love that you've been able to pass our pieces down to each of your girls! Your favorite cozy item at Colored Organics?

My favorite cozy pieces are the sleeper gowns. I swear by these for all newborns and middle of the night feeding/changes.

How are you coping with the stay at home order / what things have you been doing to keep sane and be positive during this time?

We go outside A LOT! I would say that we go outside every day when the weather is nice. The kids thrive so much better when we are outdoors and it also helps our health.

What advice would you give to an expecting mother?

Don't buy a ton of junk to fill up space in your house. Only get the basics and take all that money that you would spend buying things and stock up on diapers and wipes.
