Colored Organics Featured Mom: Meet Megan

Let's face it--parenthood is HARD. There is no manual on how to raise your family because there are so many incredible ways to do it! That's why we love highlighting the many Colored Organics mamas that are tackling parenthood one day at a time. Today, we're chatting with Megan, an NYC mama who gives advice on balancing motherhood and self-care.

Tell us about yourself!

Hi! I'm Megan. I live in NYC and I'm a new mom to my daughter, Dahlia, who will be turning one at the end of October. I started my blog about 6 years ago which was primarily focused on fashion and styling. Since becoming a mom, it has shifted completely to motherhood and I love this new found passion and creative outlet I've been able to pursue.
I became a stay at home mama during COVID, and it's been the greatest 11 months getting to watch her grow each day!

What's the most rewarding part of being a parent?

I think experiencing a kind of love that you never knew existed. The bond is something that can't even be explained. Knowing that you created this beautiful human and you get the opportunity to teach and raise them to add value to the next generation is the sweetest gift you can ever receive.

What is the most surprising thing about parenthood?

I think it's how much I'm actually capable of doing. I swear there's such a thing as "Mom Power". You can be totally exhausted running on empty, and you still manage to get up and do what you need to do. I've totally surprised myself these last 11 months with how much I am capable of doing when it comes to providing for my daughter.

What does self care look like to you?

For me, self care is so important. I feel like I can't be my best self as a mother if I neglect my own needs. A typical day for me includes making sure that during Dahlia's naps I am able to take full advantage of doing things for myself. I always do a 30-40 minute workout, catch up on a tv show or check emails. Making sure to take some time for myself makes me feel good and like I have a full plate so I am able to give my best self to her!

What chore would you forever outsource?

If I could forever outsource one chore, I would have a toss up between washing bottle parts, or cleaning up after a meal. Both are so mundane and time consuming!

What is your favorite part of Colored Organics?

We are absolutely in love with the cozy joggers from Colored Organics. When Dahlia was really little, we LIVED in these. So soft, so cozy and so easy to take on and off. Baby clothes go through so many messes and so many washes and it's so important for me to only dress my daughter in clothing that will hold up over time and are made of only the safest and softest materials for her sweet skin!

What advice would you give to an expecting mama?

Firstly, never be afraid to ask for help. You don't have to do it all, and you certainly do not need to struggle through it. Even if you feel overprotective and don't want to let your baby go, asking for help from your partner or family members with meals, cleaning, laundry etc. is the way to go!
I would also say, try your best to be kind to yourself. Whether it's losing that baby weight, or feeling like this period of sleep deprivation will never end, IT WILL! You WILL feel like yourself again and those beginning hard and exhausting days will be a distant memory. You got this mama!
