Motherhood is a journey as unique as you are, so it can often feel like you're doing it alone. Here at Colored Organics, we love to unite you, even if it's only virtually, to share some wisdom and camaraderie on the rollercoaster journey of parenting. We are so excited to share some insights on motherhood from Minnesota-based mama Elli!

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

Hi, I’m Elli! I’m a part-time Critical Care Nurse, wife, and mom to Danny, with baby boy #2 arriving this August. We call the Twin Cities home and are fortunate to be surrounded by our wonderful village of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and lots of cousins.

As a family, we love spending time outdoors, especially making memories at our family cabin in northern Minnesota. When we're not working, you'll usually find us chasing after our energetic toddler, exploring local trails, and soaking up all the adventures that family life has to offer.

WHAT'S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING A PARENT?

The most rewarding part of parenthood has been watching pieces of my husband and me come together in one incredible little person. Seeing our personalities, expressions, and quirks reflected in our son is something that never gets old. Parenthood has brought so much joy, laughter, and purpose to our lives, but nothing compares to hearing my favorite little human call me “Mama.”

WHAT IS THE MOST SURPRISING THING ABOUT PARENTHOOD?

The most surprising part of parenthood has been discovering the possibility to love and care for another person so deeply. The love I have for Danny is unlike anything I could have imagined before becoming a mom. I’ve also been amazed by the instinctive drive to care for him, even on the days when I’m completely exhausted after working three 12-hour shifts. 

WHAT DOES SELF-CARE LOOK LIKE TO YOU?

Self-care is finding moments throughout the day to prioritize my well-being. Whether it’s getting outside for a walk, squeezing in a quick workout, or simply moving my body, those moments help me feel recharged and ready to take on the rest of the day! I also enjoy treating myself to the occasional facial. It’s one of my favorite ways to relax, reset, and leave feeling refreshed.

WHAT CHORE WOULD YOU FOREVER OUTSOURCE?

I don’t know if it is considered a chore to anyone else… but getting my oil changed is the WORST and I definitely avoid looking at the odometer as it gets close to time! 


WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF COLORED ORGANICS?

Aside from the absolutely adorable clothes, I love that Colored Organics is a woman-owned company that’s local to my community. It makes supporting the brand feel even more meaningful. I also appreciate their commitment to giving back through partnerships with incredible charities, especially the Minnesota Children’s Hospital!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN EXPECTING MAMA?

Patience and grace are two things I’ve been practicing a lot lately, especially while raising an energetic two-year-old boy! Toddlerhood certainly keeps me on my toes, but I’ve learned that a deep breath and a smile can go a long way. Whether we’re navigating a snack-related meltdown or an overtired bedtime battle, those moments of patience help both Danny and me make it through the day with a little more calm and a lot more time to have fun together!
